I have a Marmot 3 layer Gortex parka that is 8 years old, has endured hunting, snowboarding, ice climbing and fishing on the Kenai Peninsula and Bristol Bay.  This parka has kept me perfectly dry (except for cuffs and neck) and yet, breathes reasonably well.  I get a little steamed when under strenuous activity like climbing or boarding, but it doesn't take long with synthetic to dry out.

I have used 1 and 2 ply goretex in the past and it always leaked.
