[ Return to Contents | Post a Reply | Post a new message ] Sako 995 Posted by Bigmnt on Dec 19 2005 The .338 Lapua is a fantastic cartridge, however it is very, very expensive to load and to shoot. The Sako 995 has a detachable magazine that has a tenancy to drop out on the back slightly when loaded and bumped causing the next shell to bind when cycled. To my knowledge Sako is the only gun manufacture offering a sporterized version of this caliber. The .338 Lapua is a Finnish sniper cartridge and most gun manufactures offer it in bench rest variations. I would love to see Winchester tool up for this one and bring it out in the controlled round feed. This is a great caliber and if enough of them get put out, the price will go down on the brass. As with most calibers the true potential of the rifle only shows up when you reload. For this reason I would not recommend the .338 Lapua for the first time gun buyer-reloader.
