I've tried an 18 hp longtail on a 12 ft Achilles and it was very disappointing. The transome was way too low and that put the tiller too low in the boat, the turning radius was limited due to the sponsons that extend out the back, and the motor was capable of shallower operation than the loaded inflatable and great care had to be taken that we didn't punch a hole in the bottom. The bottom line is that mud motors are designed to work best on flat bottom jon boats.
They will push an inflatable, a cateraft or canoe but they work much better on a jon boat.
