Hello, I use the same method for anchor retrieval in Cook Inlet.  I have just learned to live with the anchor stem bent up about every 1 out of 6 times I anchor.  I always carry a spare anchor and then I work over the bent one with a sledge hammer when I get home.  Hopefully someone will have a better idea.
