I would agree that it would be better to hold off on the boat until you get to the interior and see what rivers are like. The 20 years I lived in Fairbanks I owned numerous boats, but none close to the configurations you describe. One of my favorite getaway places was out in Minto Flats, few people except maybe on opening weekend of duck season. Hope you enjoy your new digs!!
