fish creek update
Posted by mr ed on May 23 2005
Floated Fish Ck. yesterday from Big Lk area down to Knik with a couple buddies. Water was up and had an excellent float, no walking at all this time. Log jam from old bridge causes a minor portage or clever slipping if in kayak about a hour or so downstream of Iditarod crossing and there's one other portage ( ADFG smolt count station) about 20 minutes upriver of Lewis Loop bridge crossing. Other than that it was smooth sailing and a great day. Flushed up 2 moose and slipped quietly by what sounded like a sleeping ( hopefully) bear huffing and thrashing in the weeds. If you do the float plan on doing some wading later in the season when water levels drop. - Ed
