Installing fins
Posted by fishslayer on May 23 2005
I don't know if the fins are the fix for your boat, but they are pretty easy to install. I put them on my old Johnson 55 Jet, you just have to tap out the pins that hold the steep bars in the bottom of the shoe. (the shoe comes off easily by removeing the six bolts). The fins come with longer bolts that take the place of the pins.  It did help my boat not to cavitate in choppy water and seems to have helped to performance, but I'm running a 16 foot Gruman john boat so the comparison doesn't holp up. From what I have researched, the bottom of the boat needs to be flat about 2 feet before the shoe in order to keep the air out of the jet. Hope this helps a little.
