My last boat, a 38', had a 22kg Bruce with 200' of chain and backed up by 300' nylon braid rode. I rarely had to use all my chain and held fast in most bottoms except in grass (north end of Surprise Cove is grassy, so unless you have a plow, stay away during a blow). Forget trying a Danforth style for anything other than a day of fishing. It gets fouled with the typical rocky bottom you'll find. My other boat, a 26' Tolly, had a 20lb Danforth originally which I changed out to a 15kg Bruce and 20' of chain that held good. The Bruce seemed to hold best in most cases, though a few sailboat friends with plow style anchors held well too and better in the grassy bottoms. Previous: And don't forget....
