motor mounts on double end canoes.
Posted by Alaska Series Inflatable Boats on Apr 06 2005
I've used cross mounts on 17' double end canoes before.  I used a little cruse & Carry 2HP and it worked very well. This is only a 30-pound motor though. I'd think anything much heaver or bigger would be too much weight out to the side of the canoe.
You also need to keep in mind that you want the motor to be mounted as far back as you can near the stern of the canoe.  This will keep it closer to the centerline of the canoe. If your motor is mounted beyond the alignment of the outside of the total width of the canoe you'll have troubles. You want the weight as close to the center line of the canoe as you can.
