Do you want to swim, or boat? I have made motor lifts for square stern canoes for many, many years and have been asked to make a side-mount a few times. No, thank you. Square sterns and motors, I feel, push the envelope enough. I think you are asking for big trouble in very, very cold water. Is there any way you can bring a square stern? I have paddled one down the Gulkana and it worked nicely. Two people have paddled my 19' Grum down some pretty narrow streams pretty well, too, with the motor on the back for running up. PS: No, I am not encouraging you to buy one of my lifts for a square stern. For a visit, you probably don't need one.
