Walk around the docks look at the boats and ask questions. Most boat owners love to talk! Pay attention to how the different brands of boats ride when they are coming in to dock in the rougher water. Educate yourself on how much power you will need and how much fuel you have to carry. Twin motors or one big motor and a kicker are mandatory here. Ask yourself do you want the boat mainly for fishing or for overnight stays? Do you want a big cabin or a big fishing deck? There are trememdous values in the used boat market up here especially if you buy late in the season. Boat show prices are normally the highest of the year. Whatever you buy realize it is a compromise. No boat will do everything. If I were looking for a boat to take out for halibut I would suggest at least 22 feet. Sure, you can get by with less but you won't enjoy it as much. Us boat owners are great for the economy as we can always find something to spend our money on. Don't forget it is a heck of a lot cheaper to take a charter 6-8 times a year than to pay for and operate a boat. You have to love what you are doing and not be overly concerned with pinching pennies. Previous: Hewescraft Spongebob Feb 17 2005 Message Thread:
