Jet confusion, maybe this will help
Posted by Paul H on Feb 11 2005
I think the confusion with the jet drive is that many folks think of jet pump equiped o/b's in terms of equivalent hp to a prop shaft.  Since jets loose about 30% effeciency, a 50 horse motor, with a jet pump, is equivalent to a 35 horse with a prop.  I.e., if you're boat is rated for a 35 horse prop motor, then you could use a 50 horse with a jet for the same performance.

As has been discussed and clarified several times, ADF&G defines the power at the powerhead, not at delivery to the water.
