Harbercraft 1825
Posted by John S on Jan 13 2005
Bob

I've had this boat for 3+ years and can't believe how versatile it is.  I also have the Honda 50 with the 35 HP detune kit.  I've added a Honda 8 HP kicker.  We use this boat for EVERYTHING.  We take it Halibut fishing in lower cook inlet, shrimping and fishing in Whittier, salmon trolling out at Pony Cove from Seward, and then backtrolling on the Kenai for King Salmon.  I have contemplated a larger boat (24' Bayliner) but I know I won't be able to do everything I do now.  There's nothing like nosing right up on to the beach to make camp or just letting your boat go dry for 1 1/2 hrs in China Poot while clamming and not worrying about it.

I have left my canvas up while trailering and I've beat it up pretty good.  I'm going to have to get new clear vinyl sewn into the side windows this winter.

One of the major problems we used to have was a lot of water coming inside the canvas with us in rougher seas.  Spray would come in the leading edge of the top canvas and the occasional wave would come under the side window and totally soak you.  Something in the design of the boat would direct the wave right in.
We have since found solutions.  I noticed at the Seattle Boat Show last year that all the new Harbercraft had plastic/rubber rubber rail installed along the length of the boat.  I ordered it directly from the factory and it was delivered to AMDS.  That stopped the water from coming in the sides.  Then my wife carefully cut out foam weatherstripping and we installed that on all surfaces where canvas touches aluminum.  We are now dry inside pounding thru 2-3 footers.

I added windshield wipers to both sides for the spray also.

I've installed Scotty downriggers on my boat, fish-on rod mounts bristle all over it and last year I installed an electric shrimp pot puller.  The rocket launcher SHOULD be the finale for this boat.

I went to Mike's welding in Sterling, he had some pictures of a few options.  I envision the rocket launcher mounting on the top rails right behind my rear drop curtain on both sides and then the rod mounting area sitting above the top canvas.  My biggest concern is weight and keeping it completely out of the way.  Hopefully someone else will have more ideas.  Maybe, just maybe I'll mount a flood light off the launcher too, just haven't decided yet.  I just wish I could justify radar....ha ha.

I love this boat.

Have you made any mods or added any goodies to your Harbercraft.
